The Green Lantern series has officially been given a series order! As part of the new DCU, the upcoming show has been in the works for years and last we knew, it was being completely redeveloped. HBO announced on Tuesday (June 25) that the new series has been given an eight-episode, straight-to-series order at the network, making the move from it’s originally planned Max release, though it will still become available to stream on the platform. Find out more about the new Green Lantern series… True Detective: Night Country‘s Chris Mundy will serve as showrunner and executive producer, while Watchmen‘s Damon Lindelof and Supergirl‘s Tom King will co-write alongside Chris, and executive produce.

Titled Lanterns, the drama “follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” Casting for John Stewart and Hal Jordan have not been announced at this time. Nathan Fillion will, of course, be playing another Green Lantern character, Guy Gardner, in the upcoming Superman movie. “We’re thrilled to bring this seminal DC title to HBO with Chris, Damon and Tom at the helm.

John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of DC’s most compelling characters, and LANTERNS brings them to life in an original detective story that is a foundational part of the unified DCU we’re launching next summer with Superman,” Co-CEOs of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran shared in a statement.

In addition to Lanterns moving to HBO, the Harry Potter series and the It prequel series Welcome to Derry have also both been moved from Max as part of a streaming strategy re-think, Deadline reports.
