Ed Meza @edmezavar Zurich and Berlin-based distrib DCM has nabbed Ali Abbasi’s “The Apprentice” ahead of its May 20 world premiere in Cannes, where its screening in competition.
Written by Gabriel Sherman, “The Apprentice” follows Donald Trump’s real estate career in New York during the 1970s and ’80s and his relationships with lawyer Roy Cohen (Jeremy Strong), wife Ivana (Maria Bakalova) and father Fred Trump (Martin Donovan).
DCM will release “The Apprentice” in cinemas in Germany and Switzerland. DCM Fillm has also announced the appointment of former Studiocanal exec Alexandra Bauermeister as managing director effective July 1.
Bauermeister, who most recently served as executive vice president of business and legal affairs at Studiocanal and before that held a leadership role at Kinowelt, takes over from DCM founding partners Dario Suter, Christoph Daniel, Marc Schmidheiny and Joel Brandeis, who have overseen the company since its establishment in 2008.
