Davina McCall is turning her attention to the contraceptive pill with a new Channel 4 documentary after sparking a healthcare revolution with her investigation into the menopause.
The TV presenter, 55, is shocked that more than 60 years after the pill was invented, women are still enduring a litany of side effects if they don’t want to fall pregnant.
However, what is more "terrifying" to Davina is the amount of wrong contraception advice available on TikTok. With doctors overstretched, and social media taking over, young women are increasingly at risk of misinformation.
When Davina looked on TikTok for information about contraception, she was horrified by the misinformation she encountered. “It is terrifying, these messages,” says Davina. “We all know that we get served a load of old tosh on social media sometimes. "You see some misinformation on social media, you go to school and tell three girlfriends something, and it’s fact, because you’ve seen it on social media, and then – bang – it’s everywhere.” Davina does find some hopeful news during her research.
