Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
David Weir believes a return to the Champions League could see Steven Gerrard's side emulate Ibrox heroes of yesteryear. And the 50-year-old is convinced his former team would be in position to potentially land "special players" if they dine at European football's top table next season.Rangers are closing in on a first Premiership title in a decade and could secure glory against Celtic on March 21.That would see Gerrard take his side into the champions playoff route in a bid return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2010/11 season.Rangers are also on the verge of reaching the last 16 of this season's Europa League and face Antwerp at Ibrox on Thursday after winning the epic first leg 4-3.And Weir reckons it's only the start.
