The daughter of an elderly cyclist who was left lying on the road with broken ribs after he was struck by a car has pleaded for witnesses.William Wilson, 79, was in the cycle lane on Dunbar high street when he was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at 10.15am on Sunday, April 23.William, who is well known in the East Lothian town, was recognised by a passerby who called emergency services.His daughter Marion Wilson, raced to the scene after receiving a panicked phone call from her mum.The 54-year-old told the Record: "It was really upsetting to see dad like that."I could barely make out what he was saying because he couldn't stop crying."The car that struck him sent him right over his handlebars."He's been left traumatised by the accident.

All he's done is cry in hospital."He thought he was going to go under the car and he keeps having flashbacks."Pictures taken in the aftermath of the crash show William lying on the road and strapped to a stretcher while wearing a neck brace.He suffered two broken ribs and soft tissue damage to his neck, shoulder, back and leg in the smash.He remains at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and is currently unable to stand on his own.A 60-year-old motorist stopped at the scene and was questioned by police.

Officers have since launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.Marion added: "I'm hoping witnesses who were there when my dad was hit by the car will come forward and speak to the police.

There were a lot of people at the scene."My mum and dad are both 80 in a few weeks and we had a trip booked for them to celebrate but they won't get to enjoy it after what happened.
