Dara O Briain admits he broke 'parenting boundaries' with Taskmaster

Channel 4’s Taskmaster is welcoming back its winners to compete in a special round of silly shenanigans with hosts Alex Horne and Greg Davies.

Returning alongside Morgan Robinson, Sophie Duker and other previous series victors is Dara O Briain, who admits that despite his love for the show, it has been a bad influence on his three children. “It became a family favourite during lockdown and it also broke a few boundaries for us in our parenting – it was when we gave up the fight against bad language,” laughs Dara, who shares a daughter, 15, and two sons, 12 and 18, with his wife Susan. “There doesn’t seem to be any immediate damage done from hearing Josh Widdecombe or Aisling Bea saying the word ‘c**ksucker’.” While Dara emerged as series 14’s winner after several weeks of friendly competition, the Irish comic admits that the cast weren’t as courteous in this one-off special. “There was a lot of arguing,” he says. “People were quite polite when we first did Taskmaster, and were feeling the whole vibe out, but that wasn’t really happening here.” His fellow competitors in the special include series 11 winner Sarah Kendal and Ghosts star Kiell Smith-Bynoe, who didn’t win his series but filled in at the last minute for champion Mae Martin. “I get a lot of people telling me I was robbed,” Kiell says of his series. “That heals the wounds momentarily.” The actor hopes to become the show’s first non champion of champions – but reveals that health and safety rules got in the way of filming. “They wouldn’t let me do a damned thing!” he laughs. “I couldn’t put grapes in my mouth.
