Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Danny Murphy insists he's never bought the theory Steven Gerrard left Rangers to strengthen his bid to become the Liverpool boss in-waiting.
It comes after Aston Villa called time on the Anfield icon's dreary 11 months in charge amid fan angst and ropey results. Gerrard struggled to win over hearts and minds in the Midlands and was met with fury from travelling supporters at Fulham in his final match in charge.
Murphy believes his former Kop team-mate can come again when the right opportunity presents itself to Gerrard who earned acclaim at Ibrox for winning the club's 55th league title.
However, the 43-year-old pundit doesn't buy Gerrard's hasty exit from Rangers last November - weeks after his now infamous 'do I look happy?' TV interview - was motivated by a desire to accelerate a return to Anfield as Jurgen Klopp 's successor by reawakening Villa and turning them into bonafide contenders.
