Steven Gerrard

Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,

Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.

Graeme Souness reckons Steven Gerrard will have to drop down to the English Championship if he wants to return to the dug-out as the Scotland legend can’t see “any big clubs in the Premier League being interested’ in his fellow former Rangers boss.

Gerrard was axed by Aston Villa last week just short of a year since he left Ibrox for his second managerial role at the Midlands side.

Souness described it as an “almighty blow” to the 42-year-old whose pride will have taken a huge dent following an illustrious playing career.

The former Liverpool and England captain failed to win any silverware in his first two seasons at Rangers but made it third time lucky when he led the Ibrox club their first title in a decade.
