Tony winner Danny Burstein will play Herbie to Audra McDonald‘s Rose in the upcoming Broadway revival of Gypsy, producers announced today.

A veteran of no fewer than 19 Broadway productions, including his Tony Award-winning performance as Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge, Burstein is the first cast member besides the previously announced McDonald to be revealed for the much-anticipated musical revival.

Previews begin Thursday, November 21, at the newly renovated Majestic Theatre ahead of an official opening on Thursday, December 19.

Still to be announced is the casting for Rose’s daughters Louise – who becomes the Gypsy of the title – and June. In addition to Moulin Rouge!, Burstein’s Broadway credits include Pictures From Home, My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Follies, The Drowsy Chaperone, Titanic and numerous others.
