A 'dangerously out of control' dog was shot dead this morning after mauling another pooch and leaving three people injured.
Police were called to East Kilbride this morning after the animal - believed to be bulldog-type dog - attacked a Collie in Mannering at around 10.25am.
Officers were unable to get the dog under control and had to call for back up. Armed police were scrambled to the scene before locals heard a gunshot ring out.
An investigation is now underway to establish the breed of the dog, and a probe will be carried out by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) as a firearm was involved in the incident.Three people suffered 'minor injuries' in the incident, although is not clear whether they required hospital treatment.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Local officers attended and attempted to restrain the dog which was dangerously out of control.
