Councillors are calling for action to repair a Perthshire flyover as drivers question when the A90 lane restriction will finally be removed.Southbound traffic has been restricted to one lane and a 50mph speed limit since March 2023 when the Glencarse Overbridge was hit - with works delayed due to ecology issues.Councillors have described the lack of progress as "astounding" and a "total shambles" and one has now written to transport minister Fiona Hyslop raising his concerns.Locals have questioned if the delays are due to bats roosting in the bridge.
When asked, Amey told the Local Democracy Reporting Service work has been delayed following issues identified during ecology investigations with further ecology surveys needed before work can begin. An Amey spokesperson said: "Work is progressing to allow specialist resources to carry out investigation works at the damaged A90 Glencarse Overbridge.
We have already undertaken a range of preparatory work on and around the bridge to allow this work to take place."However, ecology investigations have identified issues that require to be addressed and further ecology surveys are required before investigative works can commence."Traffic restrictions remain in place at Glencarse for the safety of road users and pedestrians as the overbridge suffered significant damage when it was struck by a vehicle in March 2023."This is a complex operation and, as previous essential repair work on the bridge has shown, can often take a considerable amount of time to complete."We appreciate the frustration that such repair works can cause but please be assured that we are doing everything we can to repair the bridge as quickly and safely as possible."Conservative Carse of Gowrie councillor Angus
