A dad has been ordered to tear down four luxury cabins complete with hot tubs after losing a two-year planning dispute. John Phillips, 39, constructed the chalets in his garden in the Gower, South Wales in 2022, and has been offering them on Airbnb for up to £185 per night.
However, after lacking the necessary planning permission for the pods, which boast views of the Wales Coast Path and Loughor Estuary, Swansea Council rejected his retrospective planning application in July last year and issued an enforcement notice four months later.
He has been instructed to cease rentals and knock down the structures within six months. John challenged both the council's decision and the enforcement notice, but a government-appointed planning inspector has now dismissed his appeals. The inspector, Richard Duggan, acknowledged that additional time was necessary due to the high demand for the chalets and the need to cancel bookings.
