A desperate wife woke up to find her husband foaming at the mouth before he began to claw and tear at his collarbone. Michael Holt, who has type 1 diabetes, accidentally took two insulin shots before going to bed one night in 2015.
The mishap was to have terrifying consequences for both him and his wife, Lin. She heard what she thought was the sound of ripping bed linen, but it was actually Michael's flesh that was being shredded.
The incoherent dad-of-one sat up and began "burrowing" into his skin, tearing it apart, Liverpool ECHO reports. When paramedics arrived at the home in Wirral, Merseyside, they were thankfully able to stabilise Michael.
He needed double reconstructive shoulder surgery and had 20 titanium pins fitted, as well as a metal plate inserted into his left arm.Michael, 54, said: “I was foaming at the mouth and my wife tried to help but at that point, nothing could be done.
