A dad and his 10-year-old son ready to flee "nightmare" hotel quarantine at the stroke of midnight were dealt another blow as they were told they still had another 24 hours.

Young Sami Caraballo had flown alone from Finland to be reunited with his dad after several months apart, but was escorted to an Edinburgh airport hotel under Scotland’s strict new Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Dad Antonio, 44, who thought his son would be allowed to isolate at home due to his age, was forced to pay more than £2,000 to join him in quarantine for the majority of his two-week trip, organised to be quality time with his family and three-year-old sister after his Christmas visit was cancelled.
