panto producer Alan Hughes found himself centre stage this week following a controversy over the distribution of the State’s €5 million live performance support scheme.Hughes has been producing, staging and starring in the panto for the past 21 years but was turned down for a share of the scheme.
And in a further hit to his finances, his family-owned bar, The Lodge Carnew, has ceased trading.Mr Hughes, a presenter on Virgin Media, is a co-director of the Wicklow bar and restaurant, along with his husband Karl Broderick, his parents and brother.The pub has been in the Hughes family since 2003, serving beer and pub grub from the main street in the town of Carnew in the south of the county.This week a notice on the company’s accounts stated.
