Now the RSPCA has launched an investigation to identify the callous culprit. The shocking incident happened on Tuesday (20 April) at about noon.
A couple found the bird - with the crossbow through the centre of the body - in the driveway of their home in Alexandra Street, Little Hulton.
The collared dove was hopping around in the front area of their house and they managed to corner the bird safely and report the matter to the RSPCA.
