Clayton Davis Senior Awards Editor National Geographic’s “Sugarcane” leads the ninth annual Critics Choice Documentary Awards nominations with eight nominations, including best documentary feature.
The film’s other nominations are Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie for director and new documentary filmmakers, Christopher LaMarca and Emily Kassie for cinematography, Nathan Punwar and Maya Daisy Hawk for editing, historical documentary, political documentary, and true crime documentary.
Also nominated alongside Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie’s critically acclaimed film is “Billy & Molly: An Otter Love Story,” “Daughters,” “The Greatest Night in Pop,” “Jim Henson Idea Man,” “Music by John Williams,” “Piece by Piece,” “The Remarkable Life of Ibelin,” “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” and “Will & Harper.” The Critics Choice Association honors the year’s finest achievements in documentaries released in theaters, on TV, and major digital platforms, as determined by the voting of qualified CCA members.
The ninth annual awards ceremony is produced by Bob Bain of Bob Bain Productions and Joey Berlin of Berlin Entertainment. The CCA Documentary Awards will be live-streamed on YouTube, X, and Facebook.
