Every area in England - bar one - is now recording rising coronavirus infection rates as the UK hit a grim milestone today. Just one area has reported a fall in new cases in recent days, as the country reports the highest daily death toll and record infection numbers seen in the pandemic so far.
The UK recorded 1,325 deaths on Friday, along with 68,053 new infections. New official figures show Richmond-upon-Thames in south west London is the only area of England to have recorded infections rates going down in the week to January 4.
Its week-on-week rates dropped from 629.7 per 100,000 people with 1,247 new cases, from a rate of 639.3 - or 1,266 cases - the previous week.
