A gay couple say they were left covered in blood after being targeted in a horrific homophobic attack while on a night out together in Middleton.

Connor James, and his boyfriend James Metcalfe, had been out celebrating Connor's 25th birthday with family on August 31 when they decided to head out for a few drinks at a local pub a short walk away.

After spending time enjoying the evening and kissing on the dancefloor, their night soon turned into violence when a number of men are said to have started punching them, calling them 'fa***ts' and other homophobic slurs.
