A couple have issued a warning to other homeowners after losing almost £11,000 in savings after being 'scammed'. Married couple Fiona and Andre Barton, both 60, say their property was left 'unsellable' after having spray foam insulation installed in their loft.
The pair said they received a cold call in December 2022 urging them to look into their home insulation during the cost-of-living crisis.
They agreed to a free loft survey from the company, and when the surveyor arrived, he informed them that their home in Edinburgh would benefit from spray foam insulation.
The surveyor offered them a limited time discount if they signed up for the installation there and then – and they agreed to pay the £4,926 to have the substance installed .Six months later, Andre and Fiona had made an offer on another property and were in the process of selling their home – but when another surveyor arrived to write the home report, they received awful news.
