Countryfile's Charlotte Smith 'given 10 years to live' before shocking discovery about her future

Charlotte Smith will be returning to our screens on tonight's (8 June) Countryfile as she looks into farming with co-host Joe Crowley.

But away from the hit BBC show, Charlotte, 60, went through a devastating ordeal after being misdiagnosed with a life-threatening condition.

Thirteen years ago, Charlotte was told she had lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), a cystic lung disease that primarily affects women, and can have a huge impact on the lives of those suffering from it.The average life expectancy following diagnosis is between 20 and 30 years, but many of those with this condition require a lung transplant after 10 years.

However, during surgery for a collapsed lung four years ago, doctors realised that Charlotte didn't have LAM after all. Speaking to The Sun, Charlotte expressed her relief: "They had to do an operation this time and they discovered that I am very lucky.
