Councillors voted to spend £500,000 on planting thousands of trees in North Ayrshire as part of the council budget. They also approved a maximum council tax rise of nearly five per cent at a special meeting last week.The price of care at home and burials is going up among a raft of service charge hikes.
Taxi marshal funding is also being cut as part of efforts to balance the multi-million budget. A council tax increase of 4.84 per cent was signed off despite opposition from a number of councillors.
It will bring in about £58.8million. Conservative councillor Tom Marshall put forward an amendment that people should only have to pay three per cent more.
