A councillor faces calls to resign for sharing a number of derogatory remarks on Facebook, including "White Lives Matter". Dennis McCabe, an Independent councillor for Middlesbrough, Teesside, is now facing calls to quit after his social media use was branded "ignorant and offensive".
He has since apologised and removed the posts, made in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests sparked by the shocking death of 46-year-old black man George Floyd in the US after a police officer knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes The Middlesbrough Council executive member for the environment shared a post erroneously trying to draw a comparison between the man's death and grooming gangs in the UK.
