Council takes action 'to prevent a recurrence of criminal activity' at trouble-hit off-licence

An off-licence in Droylsden will stay shut following a series of licence breaches, Tameside council has said. The town hall said Amsterdam Off Licence, on Market Street, was closed last October following offences including selling illegal vapes and tobacco.

Tameside Magistrates' Court, the council added, has agreed to extend the closure order for a further three months, until April 18.

Town hall bosses said they took action 'to prevent a recurrence of criminal activity'. The business had been found to be consistently non-compliant in relation to various licensing, waste management and Trading Standards matters, the council said.

It had been subject to two licence reviews. In December 2022, council officers found a car at the back of the premises that was being used to store illicit tobacco and drugs, the town hall said.
