The terrifying experiences of ex-Corrie star Nicola Thorp at the hands of a stalker have helped shape new measures to expose those who stalk people online.
Nicola Thorp, who played Pat Phelan's long-lost daughter Nicola Rubinstein on the show, was stalked and abused online by a man calling himself The Grim Reaper.
Nicola, 35, who last appeared on the cobbles in 2019, endured a terrifying ordeal lasting months by a man she did not know. The man sent messages to the actress and presenter calling himself ‘the grim reaper’ and used 25 aliases to send her a stream of violent, misogynistic messages.
The man who targeted Nicola is currently serving a 30-month prison sentence with a lifetime restraining order. Since then, Nicola has been working with the government to give victims the right to know who their online stalkers are after police said they could not reveal the identity of the offender even after he was arrested.
