Coronation Street star Colson Smith, who plays the role of beloved Craig Tinker, has opened up about his decision to get fit, explaining how he’d punish himself for his eating habits. The star took to his TikTok page to answer a question from one of his followers, who asked him what the turning point was for him to get fit. “I had to, I was on dodgy grounds,” the 26-year-old told the camera. “I didn’t realise how big I was, and I don’t think you do.
But I was like 24 stone before Covid. I was so unhealthy,” he said. The former Celebrity Big Brother finalist then went on to explain his past relationship with food, as he revealed: “I had this relationship with food where I would do this restrictive eating cycle.
I would eat s**t loads of food and hate myself for it so I would then punish myself by not eating.” He continued: “Then I would get so hungry and emotional about how I hadn’t eaten that I would then go and binge again.” Colson then explained he was in that cycle for the best part of a year, before having a thought on a way to play a story on the cobbles with his character Craig, where he had an eating disorder with his OCD. “Slightly close to home, but I thought that it would make for a really good story, and I think it’s important that stuff like that is told on TV,” he said.
Colson then asked the bosses if they could play the story if he lost the weight, and they were all for it. Unfortunately, COVID happened, leading to a change of plans.
