Coronation Street actress Dame Maureen Lipman has criticised the ITV soap for constantly trying to go one step further with shocking storylines in recent years, as she addressed her future as Evelyn Plummer.
The star's character has become a fan-favourite on the cobbles, especially because she embodies the great matriarchal women of the early Corrie days.
Yet in recent times, she's been bogged down with a difficult family plot after the return of her daughter Cassie (played by Claire Sweeney).
The storyline resulted in a dramatic shock for the rest of the family, as Evelyn had told her son Tyrone that Cassie, who is addicted to drugs, had died.
