Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has told of the embarrassing moment he realised he had tapped a Hollywood star on their behind.

Candidly addressing the awkward interaction, the star, who plays David Platt in the popular ITV soap, recalled how he was left red-faced after realising he had touched one of his favourite actors on their bottom while trying to say hello.The actor spoke about the embarrassing moment when he met Stephen Merchant at a prestigious event.Jack put the awkward gaffe down to their height difference.The Corrie star is 5ft 6, while The Office actor Stephen is 6ft 7.Speaking with his Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price on their Sofa Cinema Club podcast, Jack told how the blunder happened at the BAFTAs.He told his ITV colleagues: "I met Stephen Merchant."I think Extras was out at the time, and I’m a big fan of Extras."He’s a tall bloke, he’s nearly 7ft, he’s massive," he added.Setting the scene, Jack went on: "I’m at the Baftas and Merchant’s there."We were queuing to get in, and he’s ahead of me in the queue."I went, ‘I’ve got to say hello!’"However, he revealed that the encounter did not go to plan.Jack explained: "I saw him, I tapped him, I felt like I was tapping him on the shoulder, but I was tapping him on the bum!"We’re queuing up a flight of stairs so where he is 6ft 9, was now 8ft 2, and I’ve become 3ft 6!”"As he turned around, I went, ‘Hello, can I just say hello, I’m a big fan!’"I put my arm out, and I remember it was fully stretched to shake his hand."He bent down on the stairs and gave me a polite shake of the hand," the star recalled.Earlier this month, Jack caught up with his two co-stars after celebrating his birthday.Admitting that one of his gifts had sparked an unexpected.
