Wayne Rooney has suggested ending the season later this year in order to help preparations for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Football in England has been suspended until at least April 3 amid the global coronavirus pandemic.

The Premier League, FA, EFL and WSL released a joint statement on Friday confirming that all forthcoming matches in their competitions will be postponed following a number of reported cases at football clubs.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and Chelsea ’s Callum Hudson-Odoi both tested positive for the virus, while there have been reports of players and staff suffering symptoms at other clubs.
