The ‘track and trace’ app the government hopes will be the key that unlocks coronavirus distancing restrictions is “wobbly” and vulnerable to attack and fraud, it has been claimed.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock is set to detail the rollout of the NHSX app, which will be tested from this week in the Isle of Wight.

The app connects to other users by bluetooth as the user moves around, making a note of who the user has been nearby. If a user later reports coronavirus symptoms, a message is sent to all the people who they’ve passed close to, warning them to self-isolate or take other precautions.
