Nearly 25,000 calls a day to the Government's Covid-19 Test and Trace hot line go unanswered, shock figures have revealed. Statistics uncovered by Labour show almost 1.7 million calls were placed to the vital 119 number in just one month.
It was set up for people without internet access to request a coronavirus test. But of the calls that were made, only 56% were answered – meaning in 44% of cases people were cut off or gave up trying to get through.
Just 46% of the calls which were picked up were answered within a minute. Labour feared the low rate of connections could mean people continuing to behave normally even if they had symptoms because they had been unable to get a test.
