New York has seen its highest daily death toll from coronavirus - with a warning that 10 times as many people are dying at home as normal.
In the last 24 hours, the US city recorded a further 731 fatalities bringing the official figure to 5,489. Between 200 - 215 people are dying at home a day, with the Chair of New York City's health committee, Mark Levine, saying "nearly all the increase is people [with] coronavirus." He added: "One reason that the official NYC COVID death count - already high - is certainly an undercount." In total, New York state has seen 138,836 infections.
The alarming figure of those dying at home comes as New York's health department also confirmed it is not testing dead bodies for the virus. Follow all coronavirus
