A pensioner with suspected coronavirus has died despite the efforts of a nurse who tried to help him after he crashed into her car.

Lucy Duncan, 24, came to the aid of the terrified man on Thursday night after she found him slumped over his wheel and “struggling to breathe”.

The 73-year-old, who had bumped into her vehicle as she drove home from a shift at Wigan Infirmary, told her he had not eaten for seven to ten days because he feared he had Covid-19 and was self-isolating.

The worried mental health nurse immediately called for an ambulance and accompanied him to A&E, where she stayed with him for five hours.
