Coronation Street wins Best Soap gong at BAFTA TV Awards 2022

Coronation Street won the Best Soap & Continuing Drama gong at the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday 8 May.The ITV soap went up against Casualty, Emmerdale and Holby City in the coveted category.

Corrie stars Sally Dynevor and Charlie de Melo, who play Sally Metcalfe and Imran Habeeb on the ITV soap, took to the stage to accept the gong.

During the winner's speech, Sally paid tribute to campaigner Sylvia Lancaster following her passing last month. Sylvia was the mother of Sophie Lancaster, who was murdered after she and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were targeted for being goths.
