Coronation Street: Who is Elaine and why does Tim think she is not his real mother

Coronation Street fans are reeling from the revelation that Elaine is actually Geoff Metcalfe's wife, and Tim's father. Elaine has returned to help Yasmeen Nazir, because she too was abused horrifically by Geoff in the past and she saw Yasmeen's case in the news.

In fact, Elaine is not even her real name - it is Phillippa, and she changed it so that Geoff could never find her and terrorise her again.

Meanwhile, Geoff has allowed Tim to believe his mother was actually Geoff's ex partner Tessa - who was Elaine's best friend.

Tessa died in 2004 with Tim still believing she was his mother, so it would be absolutely staggering for him to learn the truth.
