Coronation Street unlikely to go off air during the lockdown, says Bill Roache

Bill Roache has said that he does not think Coronation Street will stop being shown on television even if producers run out of new episodes to air.

The actor, 87, who plays Ken Barlow in the soap, told Good Morning Britain that there are “maybe about four months” of pre-recorded episodes that can be broadcast before they run out of new content.

ITV halted filming of the programme, which first aired in 1960, last month in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Roache said: “We have got 60 years to draw out, so I don’t think we will be going off air. “Even when we run out, there’s plenty they can be showing and doing but I think we have got about four months in all, probably three more, I’m not sure.” He added that he is “absolutely loving”
