Coronation Street legend Julie Goodyear has been seen for the first time since her dementia diagnosis was confirmed by her husband.

There was an outpouring of support in June this year when it was revealed that the actress had been 'suffering forgetfulness for some time' and that her condition will now get 'progressively worse'.

Julie, from Bury, is best known for portraying Bet Lynch in the ITV soap. She first appeared in Weatherfield as Bet for just nine episodes in 1966, before becoming a series regular from 1970 to 1995 where she became a favourite among fans as the leapoard print-wearing barmaid.

Julie later returned for eight episodes in 2002 and another seven in 2003. And over the weekend, the 81-year-old made an appearance at Manchester's Heaton Park as she attend the Alzheimer's Society Memory Walks fundraiser with her husband, Scott Brand.
