Corey Hawkins has joined the cast of the upcoming The Color Purple movie musical. The new take on the classic story will be an adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway musical of the same name.

The original movie’s director Steven Spielberg and star Oprah Winfrey are among the producers of the new film, which will be directed by Black is King filmmaker Blitz Bazawule.

Warner Bros. is making the new film and a release date has already been set for December 21, 2023. Corey most recently starred in Warner Bros.’ movie musical In the Heights.
