The fire broke out at a house on Oldham Road at around 8.15pm. Two fire engines were sent to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
Crews remain at the scene and a cordon has been put in place. An area of Oldham Road near a row of shops has been taped off, as well as a section of Norman Street.
Pictures taken this evening show two fire engines stationed at the scene, as well as several police officers. It has not been confirmed whether anyone was injured in the fire.
