Officers say they have "well-rehearsed plans in place" to police any demo after a "far-right rally" was promoted online. A large gathering appeared in Bordesley Green, Birmingham, tonight after rumours emerged of a protest by English Defence League (EDL) 'anti-immigration' supporters.
More than 300 men, some wearing face coverings, appeared outside a McDonald's in the area from 5pm on Monday. It follows a number of far-right violent protests, which has erupted in parts of the country.
As reported by Birmingham Live, police in the city were present at the gathering tonight, but were discreetly positioned further back in police vans.
The gathering also turned into a "free Palestine" demo after a number of people stood on the roundabout opposite the fast food restaurant.
