Contractor appointed to carry out £750,000 Bell's Sports Centre revamp despite opposition from Perth clubs

Live Active Leisure (LAL) has appointed a contractor to carry out the £750,000 Bell’s Sport Centre upgrade, despite a petition in opposition to the project approaching 2500 signatures.Perth-based company, One Call, will complete the building works necessary to get the new facilities in place, while Taylor and Fraser will carry out electrical and ventilation improvements required for the development.Plans for the £750,000 revamp include three fitness studios and the much-criticised transformation of the Coaching Hall into a 100-station gym.LAL chairperson David Maclehose commented: “We are delighted to be working with One Call and Taylor and Fraser and I can now say with confidence that in making these appointments the project will now start to gather momentum towards the planned opening date of May 22.”“Readers understand that the last 18 months have been incredibly difficult for everyone, and like most organisations we continue to manage significant financial challenges from the impact of COVID-19.“This investment in Bell’s Sports Centre is a positive response to these challenges and focus on levelling up our oldest and most iconic facility.“In improving and expanding our offer our aim is to bring the people of Perth a modern, up-to-date sports and fitness centre that provides fantastic facilities for all of our customers, under one roof”.The progress comes despite continued vehement resistance to the Coaching Hall transformation from representatives of local sports clubs.They say the hall’s existing sprung wooden floor provides an “ideal” surface for people playing games such as volleyball, basketball, badminton and netball.Perth and Kinross Volleyball chairman David Munro added that players forced to train and compete
