Conor McGregor has been backed to carry on fighting even if he loses to Dustin Poirier tonight. The former two-weight world champion returns to the cage for the first time in 12 months at UFC 257.
He last fought when he stopped Donald Cerrone inside 40 seconds but was forced into a year-long lay-off by a combination of the coronavirus pandemic and a row with UFC president Dana White.
But McGregor agreed late last year to return against Poirier whom he KO'd inside two minutes in 2014. He is the odds-on favourite to repeat that result in Abu Dhabi - but White insists all will not be lost if Poirier avenges his defeat. "It happens.
