Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Rangers backline after a defensive recruitment drive which has Steven Gerrard spoilt for choice. The Ibrox centre-half watched Leon Balogun become the latest addition to a squad which was also boosted by an outing by £3.5million forgotten man Filip Helander against Coventry at the weekend for his first action since last December.
Calvin Bassey has come in from Leicester City to bolster the rearguard options with George Edmundson looking like a first choice pick for the Light Blues if pre-season games are to provide a gauge.
With a long-term injury to Nikola Katic being the only absence from Gerrard's list of options, Goldson insists he's in for a season of looking over his shoulder as he prepares for this weekend's Premiership opener.
