Comedian Omid Djalili has joked he is being ‘held hostage’ at Edinburgh Airport after his plane was diverted due to adverse weather.

The popular entertainer was forced to cancel his show in Aberdeen on Sunday evening after the unscheduled stop over in the capital.

He had complained about being forced to stand in a 'stuffy tube' for 30 mins to board the easyJet flight to Aberdeen, Edinburgh Live reports.

As his journey took a turn for the worse, he tweeted: "Landed in Edinburgh due to low visibility in Aberdeen. "Now held hostage on the runway as they discuss what to do with us, possibly even refuel and fly on to Aberdeen anyway.
