EASTENDERS fans have been left fearing a cast crisis after a total of SEVENTEEN stars have quit the soap in the space of a year. The latest, veteran star Charlie Brooks, recently announced her time on the BBC One soap was up as she confirmed plans to exit her role at the end of her current contract.  She has become the 17th star to walk away from Albert Square in just 12 months.  The Sun exclusively revealed that Charlie, 41, who has played soap villain Janine Butcher on-and-off since 1999, will film her explosive exit this year.

BBC EastEnders actress Tilly Keeper (Louise Mitchell) will have a starring role in the upcoming series of Netflix thriller, You. Tilly, 25, posted the new trailer for series four, which dropped this week, on her Instagram together with the caption: "Hello, @younetflix… YOU Season 4 Part 1 premieres February 10, Part 2 premieres March 10 #TUDUM." The ex Albert Square resident who played Phil Mitchell's daughter is putting the Vic far behind her and will play Lady Phoebe, an aristocratic socialite, in the new series of the twisted drama starring Penn Badgley.Tilly joined EastEnders back in 2016 and will feature in the fourth season of the immensely addictive psychological thriller, which is has been filmed in the UK this time as opposed to its usual location in the States - a world away from Albert Square.

EastEnders fans may have just welcomed back Shane Richie’s Alfie Moon, but his return could be short-lived as new photos from from the set show that Alfie has managed to find himself at the wrong end of a gun. Alfie made his return to the square determined to win back ex-wife Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace), despite her engagement to Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). As the wedding approached, both Kat and Phil had exes confess their love and try to convince against the marriage.

EastEnders legendary character Janine Butcher is set to say farewell to the Square later this year, just 18 months after actress Charlie Brooks returned to Walford. Charlie, 41, reprised her role as the soap's love to hate character in September last year after a seven year hiatus and has announced that her time as Janine has come to an end - for now! “I was only ever due back to EastEnders for a year, but when [exec producer] Chris Clenshaw presented me with his idea for the story, I couldn’t say no to staying a little longer," she told The Sun on Sunday.

EastEnders bosses shelved their plans for their controversial storyline that would have seen Dot Cotton's association with Walford come to an end. June Brown, who played Dot for more than 30 years, died at the age of 95 back in April.The actress played Dot from 1985 - the year the soap started - all the way to 2020, but now her on-screen granddaughter Dotty is the only person left from her family tree remaining on Albert Square.

Walford, she was dating ex-criminal Paul Whitworth but her sudden rise to fame saw the demise of their relationship, after three years. At the time, reports claimed BBC bosses had warned Jessie about her romance. Later she met and fell for Dave Morgan, a police officer who accompanied her to court when she was facing drink-driving charges.

EastEnders fans were left in tears on Thursday's episode as Strictly Come Dancing champion Rose Ayling-Ellis made her BBC One soap exit as Frankie Lewis. It was announced in August that Rose, 27, who won Strictly in 2021 with Giovanni Pernice, would be leaving Albert Square as Frankie after first joining in 2020. And Thursday saw Frankie's emotional exit as the character headed off to Scotland for a new job, leaving her on-screen family devastated.
