Coffee could help you live longer as scientists reveal how many cups a day you need

If you can't live without your morning caffeine fix, then this might just settle the debate over whether it really is any good for you.

A new study has linked drinking ground coffee with living longer after scientists investigated the potential links between coffee and improved heart health.The research, carried out by UK Biobank and studying half a million people, found that drinking ground coffee three times a day helped support a number of healthy functions.The study mainly focused on coffee's effect on cardiovascular health and ageing and found those who drink a moderate amount - three cups a day - were less likely to die than those who drank none.

However, any more than three cups was linked to poorer health outcomes overall and instant coffee was also found to have no health benefits. “Analysis showed that light-to-moderate coffee drinking was associated with decreased [risk], while high coffee intake was linked with increased all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, as compared to zero coffee drinkers,” the researchers write in the paper, published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
