Cocaine and heroin worth more than £9000 seized from home

Two men have been sentenced after cocaine and heroin worth more than £9000 were seized from a house in Blantyre. Felix Welsh, 28, was jailed for a year at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted possession of cocaine and heroin for personal use only.The court heard that police seized cocaine with a street value of £8000 and heroin worth £1400 in February last year.Defence agent Andy Thomson said both men had addiction problems.Welsh has a previous conviction for similar offending and is currently on a community payback order.Mr Thomson told the court: "He had a drug debt of about £6000 and, as is often the case, became involved in the drug chain in order to pay it off."This is the best criminal justice social work report for him that I have ever seen."He is a working man, drug-free and due to become a father again in February."I would ask the court to step back from a custodial sentence."But Sheriff John Hamilton told Welsh: "This was a significant amount of Class A drugs.
