Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The 58th annual CMA Awards show is being telecast live by ABC from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Chris Stapleton won the first award of the night, single of the year, for “White Horse.” “So many great and very, very popular songs in this category,” Stapleton said, alluding to a triumph over singles as huge as Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” But Shaboozey is far from finished for the night, with a shot at winning the best new artist prize.

Post Malone, who has become the darling of Nashville this year with his first country album, “F-1 Trillion,” opened the show with a duet with perennial CMAs favorite Chris Stapleton, performing a song from that album, “California Sober.” Morgan Wallen came into the night the leading nominee, with seven nods.

He had some help with that — most notably in the form of his featured duet appearance on Post Malone’s smash “I Had Some Help,” which was nominated in four categories.
