Clydesdale’s top performing sportsmen and women were honoured at the 40th Clydesdale Sports Council Sports Personality and Team Awards for 2023 – with Biggar Rugby Club landing five prizes.A capacity audience at Cornhill Castle Hotel in Biggar were entertained for the evening on Friday, March 8, compered by former Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith.Gents Sports Personality of the Year was won by Biggar Rugby Club and Scotland Under-20 player Fergus Watson, who was honoured with a FOSROC contract in June, and has been training daily with Glasgow Warriors.Runner-up was Law and District AAC athlete James McClafferty, who won 400m silver at the Scottish Students’ Indoor Championships at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, and bronze in the same distance at the Scottish Students’ Outdoor Championships at Grangemouth.Ladies’ Sports Personality of the Year was won by Scottish international taekwon-do star Hollie Waddell, who is current Scottish, British and European champion, and won a bronze medal at he World Championships in Finland last September.Runner-up was Biggar and Heriots Rugby Club player Emma Orr, who in December 2023 was selected to be part of a Scottish Rugby-funded Edinburgh women’s team competing in the Celtic Challenge.Emma has amassed 14 international caps, and was voted Scotland Women’s Player of the Year for 2023.Junior Female Sports Personality of the Year was won by taekwon-do’s Marissa Harding, who amongst other successes was crowned the 1st degree black belt champion at the European Championships in Madrid in October.Runner-up was Scottish international athlete Emma Clark, who amongst other accolades broke the 200m Scottish record, which had stood since 1981.In third place was Lanark ASC swimmer Evi
