Rihanna announced that she was expecting her second child during her performance at the 2023 Super Bowl - but kept the news tightly under wraps until the final moment.
Now, one of her backup dancers has revealed how she kept the secret throughout rehearsals. One of the dancers took to TikTok after the performance, for which Rihanna wasn't paid, to share how Rihanna had her fooled despite a week of rehearsals. The 20 year old dancer, who goes by the name Luhnyae on social media, said that she absolutely “did not know” that Rihanna was expecting again and that the star “came into rehearsals with big fur coats or Fenty sets all the time - you know, the big sweatshirt ones.” She also explained that most of the dancers didn’t have the chance to speak with the singer personally, as there were just “too many” of them, which meant they weren’t able to get a good look.
Instead, Luhnyae explains that Rihanna thanked them all as a group at the end of the rehearsal period. The backup dancer also joked that she was “mad at everybody” she felt was judging what she thought was Rihanna’s post-partum body, adding that she felt defensive of the star.
Joking that she “forgot” that women can get pregnant “back to back”, Luhnyae explained that she was as surprised as anyone when Rihanna announced it during the show.
